Dr. Kerstin Beer is making significant contributions to quantum machine learning while disseminating quantum science and education in creative and impactful ways.
Her research on quantum neural networks has achieved substantial impact. Following a summa cum laude PhD from Leibniz Universität Hannover in 2022, she was recruited to Macquarie University and awarded a prestigious Fellowship in 2023—one of only eight granted since 2018.
Beer has become a driving force for quantum outreach in Australia. She co-leads the National Quantum and Dark Matter Road Trip, which has traveled over 25,000 kilometers across all Australian states and territories over five years. The Road Trip has reached almost 2,500 people to date across 58 public events and 6,000 students in 100 regional and remote schools. She has also led several equity initiatives to foster a more diverse and supportive research environment, organizing events and workshops that help early-career women in quantum build community and form new research partnerships.
Her multifaceted contributions, combining cutting-edge research, extensive public engagement, and dedicated advocacy for inclusive research environments, are helping to shape the next generation of quantum science and scientists.
