Recognized with the 2023 UNESCO Woman of Influence in Science & Technology Award, Professor Vannajan Sanghiran Lee applies quantum mechanics to molecular design with applications in drug discovery and medical care. She founded MolDesign and Qubios.Sdn.Bhd., innovation platforms applying quantum approaches to pharmaceuticals and green technology.

As well as serving as Deputy Head of the Center of Excellence for Quantum Information Science and Technology (COE QIST) at the Universiti Malaya, Lee contributes to Malaysia’s national quantum strategy through her work with Malaysian Quantum Initiatives (MyQI), collaborating with government agencies on educational and capacity-building efforts that support the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Lee’s contributions extend beyond individual research outputs, creating openings for students to engage with quantum technologies in practical contexts. Her work and mentorship demonstrate an approach to quantum science that builds regional excellence, translating theories into tangible societal applications.
