Quantum 100

Pio José Arias González
Professor, Universidad Central de Venezuela, Caracas, Venezuela
Professor Pio José Arias González has encouraged quantum physics education and community in Venezuela for over three decades. Through his many roles, including Professor and former President of the Venezuelan Physics Society, he has helped shape generations of physicists under challenging circumstances, championing quantum education as essential for sustainable development.
In the context of political and economic uncertainty, Arias has continued to supervise and inspire his students, teaching specialized physics courses and mentoring emerging scientists. His commitment to accessible science is seen through initiatives like “El Teatro de la Física” (The Physics Theatre), which creatively communicates complex physics concepts. He actively promotes regional collaboration among Latin American physicists, strengthening capacity across borders and encouraging students to pursue graduate studies locally.
His resilience in maintaining scientific activity, mentorship, and community building, despite challenging conditions, demonstrates exceptional dedication to nurturing quantum science where it might otherwise have suffered.
