Quantum 100

Mekena McGrew
Quantum Information Lead, Deloitte, Sacramento, California, United States
Dr. Mekena McGrew is pioneering applied quantum science, translating quantum theory into real-world impact.
As Quantum Computing Research and Development Lead at Deloitte, she advances scalable quantum and quantum-inspired solutions for enterprise and national infrastructure. Previously, at HSBC, McGrew helped found and lead the bank’s global quantum computing program—one of the first in the financial sector—where she designed a quantum machine learning system for fraud detection. Her work created a pathway for quantum technologies to deliver near-term business value while positively impacting society.
A physicist and systems thinker, McGrew bridges fundamental research and practical deployment, from developing quantum algorithms for risk analysis to integrating quantum computation into data science pipelines. Committed to cultivating the next generation of quantum leaders, she co-founded QCaMP, an initiative introducing educators and students to hands-on quantum computing. Beyond her technical contributions, McGrew explores the creative frontier of quantum art and music, performing at the United Nations AI for Good Summit with her collaborator, Wiktor Mazin, to showcase how quantum information can be expressed through sound and
visual form.
McGrew’s work embodies deep technical innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and creative expression—advancing the quantum ecosystem across science, enterprise, and culture.
