Braulio Misael Villegas Martinez

Associate Professor, Center for Research in Engineering and Applied Sciences (CIICAp), Cuernavaca, Mexico

Dr. Braulio Misael Villegas Martínez is championing quantum education and community in Latin America. An associate professor at CIICAp and a visiting professor at Loyola University Chicago. His technical contributions span publications in Annals of Physics and PeerJ Computer Science, as well as the co-development of educational platforms such as QubitHub and QInterpreter. These tools—presented at institutions including the Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center, the University of Edinburgh, and the University of Ljubljana—contribute to the broader democratization of quantum education.

Villegas is committed to his community, founding his university’s first Optica/SPIE chapter and organizing Mexico’s inaugural national quantum computing workshop, connecting students with global leaders from IBM, IQM, and QURECA. Building on this success, he later led a major edition of the QubitHub x IBM Qiskit Fall Fest in Mexico, bringing together speakers from leading quantum companies, such as NVIDIA, qBraid, IQM, IonQ, Alice & Bob, Classiq, and Xanadu.

His creative approach to outreach uses Minecraft and AI to introduce quantum concepts to young people, while mentorship through Reach the World and BeyondQuantum supports underrepresented students.

With growing influence in Mexico and internationally, Villegas exemplifies quantum leadership beyond research, creating inclusive and unique ways to inspire the next generation of quantum scientists throughout Latin America and beyond.
