III International Symposium on Health Surveillance – Disruptive Innovations: How Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing Are Transforming Health

Iguaçu University (UNIG) is now an official member of the United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI), a global network of the United Nations that brings together higher education institutions committed to UN principles and to the 2030 Agenda, by promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

In 2025, declared by the UN as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, and in accordance with Article 207 of the Brazilian Constitution, which establishes the inseparability of teaching, research, and extension, UNIG will highlight the theme “Disruptive Innovations: How Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Computing Are Transforming Health.” This discussion will take place at the III International Symposium on Health Surveillance, an event integrated into the university’s Teaching, Research, and Extension Week (SEPEX), bringing together internationally recognized experts in technology.

Held annually, SEPEX aims to foster integration among faculty, undergraduate and graduate students, vocational education, and the broader community. Through the presentation of research and activities guided by UNIG professors, the event promotes knowledge exchange, critical reflection, and experience sharing across multiple fields, reinforcing the constitutional mission of uniting teaching, research, and extension for the benefit of society.

3-Day Lecture Workshop on Recent Developments in Quantum Physics: Computation, Information, and AI

The Department of Physics is proposing to organize a three-day Lecture Workshop on Recent Developments in Quantum Physics: Computation, Information, and AI, for students and teachers from 04/12/2025 to 06/12/2025 at BCM College, Kottayam, with a view to making the students gain in-depth knowledge on developments in the field of Quantum Mechanics. Six eminent Professors from various parts of India will handle twelve sessions during this three-day lecture workshop.

Lithium Niobate on Insulator Integrated Photonics: From Fabrication to Classical and Quantum Applications

The workshop is dedicated to bringing leaders in the integrated photonics platform of Lithium Niobate On Insulator (LNOI) together with the aim of providing an overview of the advances that have been achieved over the last years, using this overview to speculate about future opportunities of LNOI, and providing recommendations on how these opportunities can be realized by coordinated research efforts. The workshop will cover all aspects, including simulation and fabrication, devices that use electro-optic and nonlinear optical properties of LNOI, and applications spanning from quantum optics to classical. This workshop is motivated as shortly after its emergence, the LNOI platform has taken the performance of electro-optical and nonlinear optical devices to a higher level, taking the lead over the bulk lithium niobate-based compounds developed over the last decades, making this unique workshop very timely, as it will provide a forecast of the future of this platform and boost coordinated research collaborations.

Taking place in the context of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025), this year’s meeting marks a century since the foundational breakthroughs that gave rise to quantum mechanics—an intellectual revolution that transformed our understanding of nature. Over the past century, quantum physics has reshaped the language of modern science and laid the groundwork for much of today’s technology. As we stand on the brink of a second quantum revolution, with quantum computing, communication, and sensing rapidly transitioning from theory to reality, our goal is to foster discussion and collaboration across the various fields where quantum concepts are applied.

Quantum Days in Crete 2025 will bring together researchers specializing in condensed matter physics, quantum information, quantum field theory, and statistical physics. The meeting will focus on efforts to understand the collective behavior of quantum systems, both in and out of equilibrium, with applications ranging from foundational questions to emerging technologies.

Hosted at QCORE (EngineWorks Building, 2124 Technology Blvd)

Free (pre-registration is required). Limited to 15 participants.

This workshop will introduce QCORE and its workforce programs and hands-on quantum activities to representatives from quantum and quantum-adjacent businesses to help attendees build a plan for how they and their business can be more involved in outreach and workforce development.
