LabEscape (Longbeach, CA)

LabEscape, a science-outreach effort of the Physics Department at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, is the world’s first science-based escape room. Since 2016 we’ve been showing participants that science can be relevant, accessible, beautiful and fun, as we give them a taste of what it’s like to be a scientist, and the importance of curiosity, communication and collaboration. With over 15,000 agents to date, and over 98% 5-star ratings, we’re happy that over 97% of recent STEM participants surveyed that they had discovered something new about science. The entire storyline is quantum-themed — in the latest mission participants must use a distributed quantum computer to devise a cure for a terrible memory-erasing virus! As an event for the International Year of Quantum, LabEscape will be running missions at the CLEO (Conference on Lasers and ElectroOptics) in Long Beach, California, with ~400 slots open to the public. Information available here: LabEscape.org/CLEO2025.
