Warwick Quantum Launch Event

 Warwick Quantum is a new interdisciplinary research initiative that brings together the University of Warwick’s quantum technology work, encompassing the Departments of Computer Science, Mathematics, Chemistry, and Physics, as well as the School of Engineering and the Warwick Manufacturing Group. Our vision is to provide a bridge between these areas, making an impact on quantum computing and quantum technologies at all levels, from theory and foundations to hardware and industrial applications.

We are hosting the Warwick Quantum launch event in Warwick on Friday, July 11, 2025. The speakers will include Dmitry Budker, Sir Peter Knight, Helena Knowles, Gerald Milburn, and Michael Cuthbert.

Modeling and Simulation of Open Quantum Systems: Purified Pseudomode Approach and its Extensions

Accurate characterization of the environmental effects on a quantum system remains a fundamental challenge in the theory of open quantum systems. In this talk, I will introduce the purified pseudomode approach developed by us recently. This method allows for efficient modeling and numerically exact simulation of general linear-Gaussian baths. Extensions of this method to model bath input-output and nonlinear system-bath interactions will also be discussed.

Implementation of a Groundbreaking 12,900 km Ultra-secure Quantum Satellite Link Between South Africa and China

Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) has emerged as a revolutionary technology for secure communication, leveraging the principles of quantum mechanics to ensure unbreakable encryption. Recent advancements in space-based QKD have enabled global-scale secure communication by utilizing microsatellites as cost-effective and efficient platforms for key distribution. Here, we will be presenting our recent groundbreaking results on the first quantum satellite link implemented in the Southern Hemisphere and the longest intercontinental ultra-secure quantum satellite link of 12,900 km between South Africa and China.

IUPAP/UNESCO International Colloquium on Physics for Society

This is a series of online colloquia jointly launched by IUPAP and UNESCO under the framework of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology (IYQ 2025) and the International Decade of Sciences for Sustainable Development (2024–2033). It aims to create an engaging, cross-disciplinary platform to explore how cutting-edge physics, particularly Quantum Science and Technology, can support the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals. The series will be launched on April 14, 2025, with a talk by the Nobel Laureate Professor Anne L’Huillier.
