Based in Kigali, Rwanda, and originally from Morocco, Dr. Leila Zahhafi champions quantum research, education, and mentorship across Africa and globally.

Through her work in algebraic structures and the development of quantum algorithms for near-term quantum computing, she aims to accelerate understanding of quantum’s real-world applications. Beyond her academic achievements, Zahhafi has made substantial contributions to practical education and mentoring initiatives in Africa and beyond. She has been a mentor for several hackathons around the world, including in Abu Dhabi and Ghana, coaching and guiding early-career scientists in developing quantum technologies to address sustainability and social challenges within the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
